Sywell Church Roof Appeal

In August 2016, the lead was stolen from the nave and south aisle roofs of St. Peter and St. Paul church, Sywell.  The roofs were covered in tarpaulin to keep as much of the rain out as possible whilst we could arrange a watertight solution.  This turned out to be two layers of felt which will keep the church watertight for the time being.  The inside of the church has been repainted and cleaned (thank you to all who helped with this).

Your village church is open for Sunday and seasonal services, and christenings, weddings and funerals.

Just before Christmas 2018, we had the great news that we'd been awarded a grant up to £10,000 towards the cost of two new lead roofs and a roof alarm system.  Excluding the cost of the VAT (which - should be - covered by another a grant making scheme), we have reached our original fund-raising target.  Thank you to all who have given, run events or are planning events.  Our total is now...

The roof alarm has now been fitted but, due to the Covid-19 restrictions and the Church of England's guidance on building works at the time, the installation of the lead roofs had to be put on hold at the start of April 2020.  The project has now been rescheduled to begin in mid-September 2020.  We'll publish more details here and in the Sywell & Overstone newsletter nearer the time.  We're looking forward to being able to celebrate the completion of this work.  Whilst we wait, our beautiful church remains safe - thanks to the two layers of felt roofing.
